When deciding between whether to restore a tooth requiring root canal therapy, or replacing the tooth with an implant, the biggest factor is the long term prognosis for the tooth. The prognosis is determined by how much healthy tooth structure remains after the root canal therapy is completed. The more tooth structure, the better the prognosis. Implants are incredible! They are long last ing and predictable. But as great as they are, they are not better than natural teeth. So if the long term prognosis for the tooth is good, then I’m going to recommend that you keep it.
